Statement

"The starting point for my work is the concept or message, which is often personal to me as a woman living in a complex contemporary environment. The struggles of daily living are not to be underestimated, those everyday dramas and tensions can often be as overwhelming as any world event. Emotional states are complex, and formed by multi-faceted relationships which have a resonance that can pervade every area of life.

The working methods and materials chosen are the tools which give the message a visual form. Inspiration for the form comes from an inner place which I choose not to analyse and from the world around me which I find a fascinating visual feast. The closer and deeper I look the more abstracted objects become. Abstracing visual information transforms the obvious into another, more exotic language.

Form is paramount in realising my concepts and for me colour intrudes on the purity that form so its application is limited and used alongside reflective materials that increase the dimensions beyond immediate reality. Opposing materials create an unpredictability which relates to the instability of relationships based on emotional conflict."
